Has anyone else registered to speak on behalf of our park at tomorrow's meeting? We are wondering if it is redundant or not. I am working on a speech to present ... is there a time limit?

Hi Pauline. I have registered to speak and I hear that at least one other from our side is speaking too. I say go for it, it's never redundant! There is a 5 minutes limit. You should register by noon today. Let me know if you need help.
Thanks David. I sent the application form by e-mail last night. I will be speaking and I believe we have another person from our side who is also planning to speak. My speech is ready. See you tonight!
Thank you to those who encouraged me to speak on behalf of dog park users. I tried my best to make it a good argument without stooping to the level that others did. But I can't help feeling a little deflated after tonight's debaucle. Is it just me or did we just bow to people who insulted, then threatened council with legal action and presented baseless claims such as: dog park caused my car to be stolen!! my children are in danger! my little decibel gadget proves that dogs bark louder than sirens! Not to mention that most of them did NOT observe the 5 minute time limit. People who yell the loudest and round up the largest cheering section seem to get their way. I am tired of dog owners being portrayed as children-hating individuals who have no regard for public safety and just want a "silly" park (verbatim quote from an actual town councillor) to exercise their dogs in. My favourite suggestion was that we should look at utilizing a hydro field near the hydro lines, although NO parent in their right mind would take their child there! I hate to be pessimistic, but this sets a dangerous precedent for the proposed future dog park. All it will take is another petition by another group of residents unhappy that the new park is close to THEIR homes . . . when will it ever end?
Pauline, you did great last night. I am for the park and thought that some arguments against the park were taken a bit too far. It is a tough situation and everyone should absolutely enjoy their surroundings whether it is a park or their backyard. When the discussion of children playing (riding their bikes, running around)and dogs came up (which I knew it would eventually), we have to remember that people who decide to walk their dogs off leash in a public area are the ones that need to be spoken to not Town Council. Maybe the dogs are friendly enough that if they encounter kids or adults that they would be fine but nevertheless, this has nothing to do with the dog park. If people are not dog people or are afraid of bigger dogs then that is another issue all together. Fighting for something does not give anyone the right to be loud, disrespectful and threatening this is called “bullying”. The issue at hand was “noise” level. Town Council should have taken a bit more control over the discussions and focus of the main issue as well as provide better clarification of their decision in my opinion. I don't know if it was because they were tired and getting frustrated but it went completely off the rails. I love taking my dog to the dog park and she enjoys playing with her “friends”. I take her to socialize and run off some of her energy because that is what dogs need. Dogs need off leash dog parks....
