Town Staff on hand?
Council members?
Who exactly are they sending?

Does anyone really believe we will have any clout at all in making these decisions?
People give your head a shake.

It is more than likely already a done deal, this is political theatre so they can claim we were consulted.

This is starting to sound alot like the preliminary Tower Hill meetings, don't ya' think?
Have fun.

Oh, Wendy. Can you imagine the fallout if we were to measure the noise level coming from this cat in 'decibels'? Thanks for posting this. I needed the laugh.

Thanks for posting these, Wendy. I'm sure we have all seen our dogs using some of these strategies trying to keep cool. I remember you posted an article earlier in the year about keeping our pets safe in this heat - can you re-post that article so that anyone interested can reference it to keep their pals safe? Thanks again...(the second one looks like Bosco).

Thanks Adriana,
The next day when I checked my mailbox there was a letter from Faith thanking Oscar and Zen for giving her the opportunity to find them, and amazing home made treats that she made for them. It was quite a traumatic night to say the least. I am so grateful that Oscar and Zen found Faith, and that Faith found Oscar and Zen.

Wow, Amy. I'm so glad that it all worked out with the help of a little 'Faith'. What a great story. Thanks for sharing with us. We need more stories that have happy endings. If I had a tail, it would be wagging right now.

Adriana, I read the same letter to the editor, "Man's Best Friend Deserves Better" and am wondering also why it was removed. It's quite exhausting keeping up the comments to this one letter but I am not going to apologize for expressing my disapppointment at how things were handled, nor am I going to myself be bullied on an online post, for goodness sakes! I seem to be alone on the York Region news - various people are marking my comments offensive and someone went as far as to ask how long the editor is going to let my comments continue. As if they have the power to limit free speech too! This is WAR! Grr!

Keep writing your comments, Pauline. Although not a popular position, I, in fact, believe that this isn't over by a longshot. I am hearing rumbling in the ranks and I think, although we need to focus on making plans for the new park, we still have unresolved issues with the way this was all handled. I just read a letter to the editor of the Liberal today and was tremendously encouraged by the sentiments contained within. Although it appeared in print in Thursday's Liberal in the "Opinions/letters to the editor" section entitled " Man's Best Friend Deserves Better" and there was originally a link on Yorkregion.com, the link has since been removed and the letter no longer exists in the database. I have placed a call to the editor to ask for clarification. We'll see what the explanation is. Also, there have been a host of other letters and comments submitted to various websites regarding our plight.

http://www.yorkregion.com/news/article/996370--dogs-look-for-more-leash-free-parks
I am hoping that people will continue to carry the torch for this park. Write your councillors, mayor and anyone else you can think of that could possibly have an influence on how this plays out. Yes, we have to start focusing on the new park, but given the precedent that has been set by Council's tolerance of bullying tactics, we will likely be facing a similar scenario in the future also. Again, I ask everyone, how important is this particular park to you and how comfortable are you with the way in which the opposition forced the outcome?? That is the question that we all have to ask ourselves.

Wow, Cupajo - so much anger and frustration. Maybe you could have put some of that to good use and registered to speak at one of the meetings. You seem to be quick to criticize everyone else who made the effort to speak. I personally don't care how many names you call us, I thought that people for our side spoke from the heart and did well, although they could not have prepared for the dog-and-pony show that followed. Why write so many comments? It's not like your ranting is even going to make a difference. I attended both meetings with my husband and spoke at the second meeting, even though public speaking is not my favourite thing. But at least I tried. I told about how the park benefits so many more of us as a community and pointed out how the claims made by the residents were unreasonable (and heard the residents snickering in the background while I said this). Yes, they were dirty-handed and sure, a few of the councillors (especially Nick Papa) didn't do us any favours, but they were not about to commit political suicide and look like insensitive bastards who didn't care about a deaf boy. It was easier to dismiss dog owners because somehow in our screwed-up society, dogs are just property and not living, breathing, life-long companions. Besides, most of the council were tired and grumpy because they still had to pass the budget at the same meeting! I'm tired of all the negativity I have been reading and hearing. After the decision, I was very angry at first, but now I am directing it towards something a bit more positive. I've been writing a lot of comments to the York Region newspaper in response to articles and letters of opinions about dog parks. It seems the debate is still alive. I think I may have enraged some person from London Ontario who has a thing against dog parks. Hee hee, I think I am becoming a squeaky wheel!

Thanks for your post, Cupajo. I find your argument very compelling and I have to admit that you do make some very accurate statements. Yes, it is not only alright to get angry, it often fuels the passion that is, in fact, necessary to continue to oppose this type of gross miscarriage of justice. I do believe that we lost some of our steam because the review of the staff report was postponed several times before being finalized. This gave the other side ample time to manufacture more of their empty assertions, take a hundred pictures of the same two dogs wading in the storm pond and convince the father of a child with a hearing impairment in one ear (who incidentally blasts his stereo full volume all summer long without any concern for his son's apparent discomfort) to sell his soul to the devil and dream up his ridiculous over-the-top emotional plea for the sake of his son (which Nick Papa lapped up like a thirsty dog -- just what they needed). Yes, unfortunately, I agree with you. The precedent set by this whole unpleasant affair dictates that this type of bullying and manipulation works, even though it shouldn't. You mentioned that you were at the first meeting and missed the second. In fact, the far more interesting, frustrating and absurd representation of just what this group will resort to was the second meeting when 4 households managed to fill 20+ seats by bringing everyone they knew with them for their academy award-winning rendition of "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest". I understand your ire and share the same sense of profound betrayal, but in the end, we do have to move on from this in whatever way makes sense. Rest assured, there are rumblings in our ranks and I don't think this is over yet, not by a longshot. As for the "mouth-breathing-simpletons" perhaps you could have added "knuckle-dragging Neanderthals" just for effect? Unfortunately, we will have to agree to discuss the validity of your less than optimal opinion of the public at large on another occasion. I, for one, have been known to take deep breaths through both nostrils on occasion and find that improving my posture lessens the road-rash on my fingers tremendously.
