It was another hot one for the clean up!  A big thank you to Laurie & Daniel who dropped by to help out with the litter around the park.  Fantastic job  :)

Thanks also go to Spike’s dad who helped out with the line trimming in the park today – the help was very much appreciated!

Work on the long anticipated crosswalk across Tower Hill Road has begun. It will certainly be a relief to park users and residents to have a marked crossing to use as this road is a bit of a raceway!

The Town has been flooded with letters of support; some have been shared with the K9 Klub and some have not, but ALL are appreciated. Of course we still have a couple of months until the Parks report will be presented to Council and there is no such thing as too many letters, so keep them coming! plui@richmondhill.ca

Today we received a personal rebuttal to the petition that is thoroughly researched & wonderfully well written . Each point in the petiton is addressed and we are pleased the author has graciously given us permission to share it. Read it here.

Now more than ever we need individuals willing to help out with monitoring the status of the park for safety & maintenance along with filing brief reports as to number of users, noise levels, etc.  This can be done while you are at the park with your dog and does not require a schedule.  The more volunteers we have the more coverage we have as far as days of the week and times of day.

Klub Directors will be at the park at 11am on Sunday, July 25 for the monthly clean sweep and will be available for orientation of anyone interested in becoming a park volunteer.

See you at the park!

We have received many requests for details of the petition filed to close the park.

You can read the cover letter for yourself here:  Close Off Leash Park – July 11 2010 Petition Letter

Let us know what you think!

Last week the Klub had been made aware that local residents may be filing a petition to close the park.  Last night’s Town Council meeting was the last before the summer break and we felt it was important to update council on the park successes so the Klub co-chair, David Walker, presented a 5 minute speech  to the Council and staff, a copy of which can be found here:

July 12th 2010 Speech to Council

Unfortunately, the anticipated petition was filed with the petitioners demanding that the Pilot Project be reviewed earlier than the planned end in late fall. Although we don’t anticipate the final decision to be made sooner than the schedule set by the town, the Klub would prefer to be prepared nonetheless.   It is very important that the Klub show a strong membership and we encourage anyone not registered, to do so.  Paid membership speaks loudly!

Thank you for your continued support.

We had a lot of people drop by our booth at the events we attended over the last month; it was wonderful to meet so many people from the community!  Many filled out a ballot for our free raffle which was drawn at the end of the day July 1.

AND THE WINNERS ARE:
Denise Casullo
Anne Boiron
Louise Hamilton
Sandy Sun
Conrad Tsang
Kathleen Reed
Lisa Wolfman
Judy Horwood

Congrats!  Hope you and your pooch enjoy the prizes  :)

A huge thank you to our sponsors who so generously provided the prizes for our event raffle – we couldn’t do it without you!

We have another new addition to the park; a new tree in the small dog area!

Special thanks to Ramsey’s dad for transplanting a beautiful but unwanted tree from his clients property to its new home in our park. Hopefully the tree will quickly adapt to its new surroundings and provide some much needed shade for many years to come.

While some of the Klub was manning the booth at the Oak Ridges Fair  (thank you volunteers!), there were some guys at the park taking care of the installation of our long awaited bulletin board.  They braved the threat of thunderstorms, heat, curious dogs and apparently underground boulders to do so, but it was worth it because the board looks fantastic!  We are awaiting the final piece to arrive which is tentatively scheduled for installation on July 3rd.

This Sunday is our monthy Clean Sweep at the park…  please drop by for a few minutes to help out.  The more hands we have, the less time it will take!

We are also looking forward to Canada Day at Richmond Green – looking to be a busy, busy day at the Green!  If you are out enjoying the festivities, be sure to visit the Home Show and say hi to the Klub crew at our booth  :)

So Heritage Festival was a very wet day – a big thank you to the volunteers that braved the (at times) torrential rain to help out at our booth!

Hopefully the weather will be much better for the Oak Ridges Fair this weekend!  This fair is jam packed with events all weekend – should be fun  :)    We could still use a couple of volunteers to help us out, so if you have a couple of hours free, please drop an email to Colette at ctanel@rhk9klub.ca and ask her to add you to the schedule.

See you at the fair!
